Facial Acupuncture

Heal & Glow from Within

Facial Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice that takes your internal health and skin goals into account.

It compliments nutritional and lifestyle recommendations to help you achieve healthier looking skin from the inside out.

HOW IT WORKS

Restoring Inner Balance

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, your face and complexion are reflections of your internal health and organ function. When imbalances occur within, it often shows on the outside. Facial acupuncture works holistically, blending distal body points and local facial points to restore harmony, revitalize the skin, and enhance your natural glow.

Each session is a rejuvenating experience that may include facial massage, cupping, gua sha, and/or Celluma Light Therapy Therapy. During your first visit, your practitioner will create a personalized protocol tailored to your unique needs.

What to Expect

Your initial session begins with a comprehensive consultation to assess your overall health and skin concerns. A personalized plan will be discussed with you, which may include dietary and lifestyle recommendations, as well as the ideal frequency of treatments for optimal benefits.

The Initial and Follow-up sessions include a full treatment, which typically involves:

  1. Body acupuncture points to treat internal imbalances, and promote relaxation
  2. Local acupuncture points to address concerns on the face, neck and/or scalp
  3. Applying Celluma LED Light therapy  over the main treatment area, and leaving you to relax with dim lights, calming music, a warm table and a heating lamp.
  4. Concluding the session with Facial Massage, Gua Sha and/or Cupping

We recommend coming to your appointment with a bare and clean face. If this is not possible, then we do offer facial wipes to help prep the skin.

Most people find that Facial Acupuncture is a relatively painless experience. Of course, everyone’s pain threshold is different. The needles used in Facial Acupuncture are much thinner than those used on the body and are inserted shallowly into the skin.

Facial Acupuncture has some potential side effects, but they are rare and tend to be mild. Some of these may include: bruising, local inflammation and temporary exacerbation of existing conditions.

LED Light Therapy (Celluma) is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-level light therapy (LLLT) to promote skin health, reduce inflammation, and improve healing. It is used for conditions such as acne, aging skin, pain relief, and wound healing.

How Celluma Works:
  • Blue Light (465nm) – Targets and destroys acne-causing bacteria (P. acnes) to help clear breakouts.
  • Red Light (640nm) – Stimulates collagen and elastin production, reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and inflammation.
  • Near-Infrared Light (880nm) – Penetrates deeper into tissues to reduce pain, improve circulation, and promote wound healing.

Applications of Celluma:
  • Promote circulation and tissue healing
  • Acne treatment (reduces inflammation and acne causing bacteria)
  • Anti-aging (wrinkle reduction, skin rejuvenation)
  • Hair thinning and hair loss
  • Other applications: pain management (muscle, joint pain, and inflammation)

Possible Side Effects
  • LED devices like the Celluma are considered extremely low risk when used as intended. However, it may cause some mild side effects, including: Temporary redness or irritation; Mild eye discomfort (protective goggles are provided); Increased sensitivity to light
  • If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask your practitioner prior to starting a session.

Every facial acupuncure session ends with a combination of Facial Massage, Gua Sha and/or Cupping. We use rose water and rosehip oil to hydrate the skin, and allow for the tools to glide effortlessly. You are welcome to bring your own serum if preferred.

Facial Gua Sha involves smooth, unidirectional strokes using a polished stone tool to gently sculpt and revitalize the face and neck. This technique helps relieve muscle tension and enhance blood circulation.

Facial Cupping utilizes soft silicone cups to create gentle suction, promoting circulation and lymphatic flow. It may help reduce puffiness and improve skin elasticity.

Based on your individual assessment, your practitioner will select the technique best suited to your unique needs and goals.

Facial Acupuncture can take time and consistency for the most optimal benefits. When first starting, we recommend a course of 10 – 12 sessions (1 – 2 sessions per week for 5 – 6 weeks).

After completing a course of treatments, we recommend a maintenance plan of once a month. However, this may vary depending on your individual goals and response.

Please note facial acupuncture is contraindicated (i.e. not recommended) if you:

  • Are pregnant
  • Have unmanaged high blood pressure, or
  • Had recent facial surgery or treatment, or
  • Have open wounds or broken skin
  • Have any known bleeding disorders, or are on any blood thinning agents, or
  • Are immunocompromised
  • Had botox or fillers within the last 8 weeks
